The One Health Initiative
One Health is defined by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as “the integrative effort of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally, and globally to attain optimal health for people, animals, and the environment. Together, the three make up the One Health triad, and the health of each is inextricably connected to the others in the triad.”
If these connections are not accounted for and understood, our problem solving efficacy is diminished and opportunities to improve the functioning of all the components are lost. Globalization, emerging diseases and other such patterns have strengthened these connections making their incorporation into decision-making even more crucial. The re-creation of this program allows for a prioritization and a focus on using the lens of One Health, ensuring optimal revenue generation while preserving the land for future generations.
