My Welcome Message

I greatly appreciate your interest in my candidacy for Commissioner of Public Lands.

As commissioner, I will:

  • Create good jobs for New Mexicans,
  • Increase support for our public schools, hospitals, and universities,
  • Help our communities grow while maintaining their cultures and quality of life, and
  • Restore the health of our state trust lands.

This is a tall order.  I served as your land commissioner from 1993 to 2002, and we were recognized as one of the best land management agencies in the country.

Since my tenure at the State Land Office, I have returned to using my skills as a veterinarian.  I have also assisted with the efforts of one of the world’s top scientists, Dr. Jane Goodall, who has projects in 111 countries.  Through this work, I have had the great opportunity to meet some of the world’s top experts in economic development, wildlife conservation, land management practices, and youth leadership development.

I want to continue to use this knowledge and set a new ethical and professional standard at the land office.  We can restore the trust in our land office while taking it to the next level.

Thank you for visiting my site.  I welcome your comments, questions, and advice.

Sincerely,

Ray Powell, MS, DVM
