Land Commissioner – Ray Powell

Powell, who served as land commissioner from 1993 to 2002, is being challenged by current Public Regulation Commissioner Sandy Jones and Santa Fe County Commissioner Harry Montoya. Powell brought balanced, steady leadership to the office during his previous terms, and has the endorsements of local state Reps. Jeff Steinborn and Nathan Cote and Sen. Steve Fischmann, who introduced a package of bills intended to provide greater oversight to the Land Commission. Powell vowed to work toward reform that would increase transparency and include local communities in decisions that would impact them, without decreasing the office’s ability to operate effectively.
